Ayurvedic Summer Drinks

It seems like Summer is ending soon. I can already feel the hint of chill in the air. So, let us enjoy the summer fruits and beverages before fall hits. Here is the cooling drink called lassi.  Lassi is simply fresh yogurt blended with room-temperature water. You can add other ingredient and spices according to your DOSHA. Thinning yogurt with water and blending it changes the molecular structure, so it is more easily assimilated and it aids digestion. Drink it before or with lunch.

Mangoes are considered as Ayurvedic super fruits. Ripe mangoes pacify Pitta and are nourishing to heart and tissues according to Ayurveda principles. In a blender, blend smooth 1 cup mango, 1 cup yoghurt together and 1/2 cup room temperature water. Transfer to a glass and add honey as required. Add a dash of cardamom for flavor. Garnish with mint leaves and serve.

There are many recipes for lassi. The following one is good for warding off the gas and bloating: 1 cup room-temperature water, ¼ cup fresh homemade yogurt, 1 pinch ground ginger, 1 pinch ground cumin, 1 pinch ground coriander, 1 pinch salt. Blend for one minute and drink after lunch – at room temperature or slightly chilled.
